EUPHORIC ALCHEMY
Edited by Marta di Meglio, Elena Calaresu, Alice Deledda
Up Urban Prospective Factory Gallery in collaboration with Siotto Gallery, 16/09/2022
From 16 September, in the “Up- Urban Prospective Factory” exhibition space in via dei Salumi 53 in Rome, the exhibition “Euphoric Alchemy” by the artist Fabrizio Antonio Ibba was held, curated by Marta di Meglio, in collaboration with Elena Calaresu and Alice Deledda, curators of the “Galleria Siotto” exhibition space, “Giuseppe Siotto” research foundation in Cagliari.
In choosing the title of the exhibition, there is the synthesis of a project developed following the pandemic period: the fusion of alchemical wisdom, from which chemistry gradually developed, mixes with the passing, but equally propulsive, emotional state of euphoria .
After a phase of introspection and research given by symbology and archetypes, the artist chooses for his Roman exhibition the result of an explosive and lively production.
In the canvases in acrylics, watercolors, but also the intrusion of elements such as branches, stones, sand obtained from the soil of the places of rural Sardinia in which the artist takes refuge and from which he draws inspiration, a succession of works opens up in small and large formats, whose energy of gesture prevails and surprises.
The mixtures of colors fixed on the canvases appear in continuous transformation, as in a chemical experiment. The acid and fluorescent tones of some works are accompanied by pastel colours, evocations of real and interior landscapes. A happy path dictated by the inspirations of Nature, represented by the works produced in the last two years, and by a selection of previous material productions.
ROOTS
Curated by Elena Calaresu, Alice Deledda
Siotto Gallery, October 7, 2021
The history of man is a chain of events whose dynamics, as in these times, question us and sometimes overwhelm us. Man has always represented with symbols those that are the complicated meanings to express, in particular the mysteries of birth and death, which to look at with different levels of interpretation.
In Sardinia, among the first symbols produced by man we find the Mother Goddess, sacred representation of the woman, of birth, of the land from which everything is born and to which everything returns with death.
Subsequently, the Mother Goddess is joined by other bull symbols and male figures in the form of Menhirs.
With the Roots project, the artist, demiurge as in tradition, faces a reflection on these symbols, their meanings and their aesthetics, with the tools and sensitivity of contemporary art.
THE CROSSING
Text by Alessandra Corona e Chiara Corona
The Lazzaretto in spring 2021 hosted an original production by Fabrizio Antonio Ibba, created following the suggestion that this place – on the edge of the historic city and totally immersed in nature – has produced on him.
A happy meeting from which a dialogue was born between the Space and the Artist who, fascinated by the quiet position, by nature, by history, by setting, by experience, found inspiration to create a new SERIES of works exhibited at the Lazzaretto for the first time. time.
As his entire production tells us, the Reality that surrounds us, the real and concrete one that influences the life of all of us, intersects with a dreamlike Reality, linked to magic and symbolism and is contaminated by it to the point of projecting the public into a fantastic world, where the drama that surrounds us every day gives way to the relief of a world that welcomes us in a gentle atmosphere. A space in which to breathe, take a regenerating break.
The exhibition entitled “Traversata” is a metaphysical journey in search of the true essence that must complete us and provide us with the nourishment and “weapons” to overcome the sea of difficulties in which we are navigating.
Surely a thought goes to the situation of migrants, of those who abandon their reality, difficult, hopeless, in search of a better life, chasing a dream.
However, in this project, the metaphysical suggestions that open the mind are preeminent, as in a psychoanalysis that by asking the viewer many questions does not give certain answers, but food for thought that everyone must grasp intimately.
In the works on display, the artist’s vocation for the figurative is clear, a figurative with simple, naive, childish features that well express his world
HUMANITY’S MIRROR
The project Humanity’s mirror, conceived in 2019 by Fabrizio Antonio Ibba, is a large series of portraits of his contemporary people, combined with a narrative structure of statements of the subjects portrayed.
Portrait is a representation only apparently narcissistic. Agreeing to be portrayed, we feed, first of all, our natural desire for attention, a kind of self-love that develops itself during the execution time of the portrait. In that moment, in fact, we become the object of study and processing of the artistic performance. The self-love, moreover, continues while our portrait is seen and admired by other observers.
Anyway, deep down, each of us keeps the primal curiosity to be seen from the outside. Our “inside” is far too familiar, it is present in every moment! But our “outside” persist foggy, dark. Even though we see it in the house’s mirror, we keep searching for it in shop-windows, in car windows, searching for another glance on ourselves, less known.
The portrait is a new mirror, a new sip of water to calm our thirst of knowing ourselves. However it has a peculiarity that makes it fascinating: it is a triangle artist/mirror/ourselves. The invitation from the artist to portray us, becomes an irresistible chance to see ourselves in the artist’s eyes and, so, in his soul. It is not a neutral glass mirror, it is the living mirror of another humanity, that tell us how we are like and what we are. It gives us another “us”. It gives us a new birth, a new unexpected self. So we wait, breathless, for this second birth, to know ourselves.
People portrayed in this project not only entrust their faces to the artist, but they say yes to another invitation: to leave a message, for themselves, for the others, particularly for their contemporaries. They leave us a vision, an idea, a feeling, a word. The project wants to gather their voices in a democratic search for wisdom.
Like Candide, from the Illuminist Voltaire, told us: “Il faut cultiver notre jardin”…Like Aleksèij Karamazov invited us, in the final part of “ The brothers Karamazov” from Dostoevskij: “ Let’s try, first of all, to be kind, then honest, then, let’s remember the ones of the others”…Like the declarations we send through the social networks, that are an impression of the instant…
The project Humanity’s mirror give us the chance and the responsibility to leave a “message in a bottle”, that could be catch or not. Anyway, it will certainly enrich the fresco of our times and places.
FLOWERS FROM INNER GARDEN
The current collection “Flowers from inner garden”, exhibiting from the first time at Saye’ Art Gallery in Tehran, is composed by 3 different series: Black fairytale, Female identity and Flowers.
These 3 series share an intimate, secrete atmosphere, expressed by the essential tracts by wich the imagines are represented.
These paintings recall the echoes from the enchanted storyes from childhood and the glances on protected identities, then the collection title “Flowers from inner garden”.
INCONTRI D’ARTE
OVO
September 2005 Brussels
Text by the Garcia Lorca Cultural Center
The “OVO” exhibition is a journey to the dawn of creation.
The interaction with the public represents the fundamental element of this experience , where we play with two symbols: the Egg and the Thread .
The night is deep and black, with its sigh of wind . It gives birth to an egg, from which came out Eros and Fanete .
The germinative force contained in the egg has been associated with life energy since the dawn of time.
This is why the egg plays an important role in healing rituals and fertility cults.
Used as offerings in the graves, it has practical application as food for the journey to the afterlife.
The same sun and moon were often associated with celestial gold and silver eggs .
Generally the egg is considered as the symbol of an original seed from which the world would come.
Symbol placed inside a shell, it represents the genesis of creation.
In certain folk rites the eggs are sometimes buried.
Their fragility is important because it prevents adverse forces from causing destruction and forces them to contain themselves.
When Adam dug and Eve spun … Eve the primordial mother .
The action of spinning is often associated with a female triad of supernatural beings whose role is to weave, spin and finally cut the thread that symbolically represents the life of men.
Even the canvas made up of the threads of human destinies is represented in the otherworldly world by female figures.
In medieval Europe the thread stands as a symbol of the contemplative life.
REFUGE OF THE SOUL
September 2004
Garcia Lorca Cultural Center Brussels
Text by Daniela Melis
There is no more room. The world is full. There is no more room. Full of everything, too much. Asphyxiating, saturated, overflowing. It is useless to push, close your eyes, plug your ears, make your way through the crowd, pretend nothing has happened. There is no more room. No refuge.
The artist traces pauses by ideally building spaces that are not isolated, but insulating, not neutral but neutral. Refuges for the soul.
Circular like the perfection of the finished, they enclose, guard in an embrace, but also expand in depth.
These are the signs of a ritual dance that wants to cast out demons, idolize nature by celebrating the sacred spirituality of existence. It is an invitation to enter, to become a center, to seek protection in the only possible refuge, where we finally find what we thought was lost.
Ten rounds conceal the path of an organic spiral. A layered mix of colors and natural material that settles, lives and transforms over time. Matter that will leave new marks, not those of now, which will have an aspect that we do not see today but that tomorrow will be another image above that of our memories. Matter in the making, therefore, which silently yields to time, continuing to submit to the open trend of the spiral, an incessant and endless motion.
